Research by scientists at Cambridge University suggests that brainy children may owe their intelligence to their mothers. This, they claim, is due to the fact that genes inherited from the maternal side are most dominant in the development of the brain.
Researchers injected extra doses of male and female genes into mice embryos - and found that those with added female genes grew bigger brains and smaller bodies. In the mice given extra female genes, the maternal DNA was clustered in the cortex - the thinking part of the brain which governs intelligence, language and planning. This, they claim, suggests a mother's genetic code is strongly linked to intelligence.
